In an attempt to spur sales and gain market share, Ford Motor Co. is offering $100 Canadian consumers who take a Ford or Lincoln vehicle on a test drive, even if they choose to purchase the vehicle from a competitor.
"This offer is our way of keeping our momentum going and staying competitive as we launch seven new vehicles, including the Ford Fusion, Fusion Hybrid and Ford Taurus," said company spokesperson Kerri Stoakley. "And with the Drive One Challenge, we are giving consumers a clear, compelling reason to visit a Ford store."
The promotion, which is effective Wednesday, makes sense, according to Eugene Trepanier, a salesperson at Rose City Ford in Windsor, Ontario.
"Their thinking is if you drive the Ford car, you will buy the Ford car," he said. "You put a person behind the wheel of a car, and they buy it. So, Ford says once in a while they have to give away $100, but guess what, they're going to sell a lot of cars in the meantime."
Ford, the only Detroit-based automaker to steer clear of bankruptcy court and any government-backed bailout funds, has gained market share. The company's Canadian market share as of the end of May was 13.6%, up 1.2 percentage points from the same time last year, said Stoakley.
That's pretty cool... maybe I'll go test a vehicle later today...
