Former city councillor and heritage advocate Lenore Swystun, who lost the race for the mayor's chair three years ago, says she is "seriously, seriously considering" running for mayor in the October civic election.
In an interview yesterday, Swystun said that ifs he does hit the campaign trail, it will be "not unlike 2006," when she ran on a platform of "sustainable growth" and "transparency." She then said that it is important to provide a critique during the election about how the city is currently being run.
"Consultation after the fact is not how we should be doing things," she said, a reference to her recent stance to keep the St. Mary Community School building from demolition. "There's a lot of people who want another voice to how we do things in the city. There's a lot of concerns around openness and transparency and promises that haven't been delivered on."
Swystun finished second in the 2006 mayoral race with 22.5% of the vote to Mayor Don Atchison's 64%. Fring candidate Johnny Melenchuk, who campaigned in 2006 on a platform against police corruption, has also said that he will run for mayor.
At this time, Saskatoon Mayor Donald Atchison is running unopposed, making him the winner by default.
