KFC's Double Down: A Lame-duck Experiment
written on Tuesday, October 26, 2010 by Huy Dang
KFC's Double DownAs you know, KFC Canada recently started offering the Double Down, but only for one month. Why the short period of time? It's unknown, but it's really a blessing in disguise.

On October 22, 2010, I tried the chain's Double Down "sandwich," and it had interesting effects.

Ever since it was offered in the United States (I actually didn't know it existed, period, until about a week before Canadian locations started to offer it), I had wanted to at least try the sandwich.

On October 18, 2010, Joseph Harris stole an article and posted it on the Newsfeed, which he appropriately titled "KFC's "Double Down" Arrives in Canada for One Month: Fast Food Fanatics Rejoice?"

The posted story mentions that even the restaurant chain recommends that you don't have so many.

I started my journey after visiting an English teacher at Aden Bowman Collegiate. It was the day of my last midterm this month, and I had overlooked the possibility of packing a lunch in a lame attempt to save some much-needed money.

After days of "craving" the sandwich but also looking at it and getting sick, I decided to go to the restaurant and order a sandwich. And yes, I decided to give into the fad of eating an unhealthy "sandwich" even though the company's website clearly states the following in an attempt to describe the meaty "sandwich:"
2 Original Recipe chicken breasts, crisp bacon, processed pepper jack cheese, our very special Colonel's sauce, and all the bragging rights that come with taking one down.
After much consideration, I walked into the KFC location at the corner of Clarence Avenue South and Taylor Street East in Saskatoon and waited in line. When it was my turn to order, the clerk behind the counter asked what I would like. With hesitation, I said, "I'm afraid to say it, but I would like a Double Down... and just the sandwich."

The clerk decided to ask, "Why not the combo? It's only two dollars more."

"I don't know about that--it seems like a bad idea," I remember saying.

After ordering, I waited in line for almost fifteen minutes, which was just in time for me to catch a bus back to the University of Saskatchewan campus.

While I was on the bus, I took a picture of the bag that contained the sandwich:
Double Down - 1

Once I had arrived at the campus, I headed straight to the cafeteria in St. Thomas More College and started to eat... or the process of eating.

This is what the package looked like when I took it out of the bag:
Double Down - 2

Once I opened up that small paper box, this is what the sandwich looked like...
Double Down - 3
It was pretty sloppy and did not look too appealing anymore.

After eating half of the "sandwich," this is what it looked like:
Double Down - 4
It looks pretty disgusting, doesn't it?

After a gruelling meal, I thought the meal was tasty. But within half an hour, my chest started to ache and I had issues eating for the rest of the day.

Aside from "bragging rights," do I suggest eating this nasty sandwich? No. It's really salty, and you can easily get chest pains.
